A number of homes for sale in Excelsior feature cozy fireplaces perfect for chilly winter nights. There's nothing better than sitting next to the fireplace, hot cocoa in hand. But while you're staying warm and cozy make sure to stay safe, too! Our realtors share some tips on staying safe while you enjoy your fireplace this winter.

  1. Make sure to have your chimney inspected and cleaned.
    Do this before you decide to start building fires. Soot and creosote are deposited along the inside of the chimney can create a fire hazard. The chimney cap and damper should be free of debris and working properly. If you use your fireplace frequently, it may need cleaning more than once a year.
