Excelsior MN Buy a Home Holidays
The holidays are just around the corner. With all the festivities, you may have forgotten to put something on your wish list, a new home! The holidays aren't the time of year most people typically think about buying a house, but there are some definite advantages. Here's why you should start your search for Excelsior homes for sale today.

  1. Less competition and inventory
Fewer people are house hunting during the holidays. If you've previously shopped and endured bidding wars, you may be more successful during the off-peak season. If you haven't started looking yet, but want to buy in a "hot" neighborhood, you may find less competition, increasing your chances of getting the home you want. If you're a first-time buyer, not having a staggering number of homes to choose from can make the job easier and there's less chance you'll overpay.

  2. Consistently lower prices
Historically, the home prices around the holidays are at their lowest point of the year. This is an excellent opportunity for buyers, especially if you're interested in buying a home for investment purposes.

  3. Everyone is motivated
Often buyers selling during the off-peak season are doing so because they have to. Their house may have been on the market for a long time, they may have to relocate for work, or they may need to sell for financial reasons. They're more willing to negotiate and close the deal and less likely to hold out for a better offer if yours is fair. Lenders want the financial transaction on their books by the end of the year. Sellers are usually anxious to get in their new homes before the holidays or before New Year's Day. Buyers and sellers can both potentially gain tax benefits from the transaction. All these reasons are likely to make things a little easier, so take advantage.

  4. You'll see what the house looks like the rest of the year
It's easier to make a home look great during the spring or summer. There's more natural light coming in, and everything is blooming. Bad weather is less likely to produce problems like roof leaks or standing water in the yard.

During the winter it's easier to tell if there isn't enough light or heat in some areas of the house, find energy leaks, and assess the likelihood of winter-related problems such as ice damming. You'll still need to look for things that might be problems at other times of the year and make sure your home inspection is thorough.

  5. Financial benefits
If you are planning on moving during the holidays, it may make more sense to buy instead of rent. It's not unusual to have to come up with at least a few thousand dollars to move when you're renting. With low down payment options, especially for first-time buyers, it may make more sense to use that money toward the down payment on a house instead of a deposit on your rent. You'll have the opportunity to build economic equity, and the percentage of your monthly income going toward housing may end up being lower. Plus you'll get the tax benefits of being a homeowner. Talk to a financial professional about what makes sense for you.

Don't be afraid to house shop during the holidays. There are plenty of reasons that make it an excellent time to buy, and you can start making memories in your new home. Contact Homes by Joel today!
