Excelsior Ice Castles
Pure Magic. Pure Fun in Excelsior

Excelsior, Minnesota is thrilled to welcome Ice Castles to our city for the winter season.

Most Minnesotans are familiar with this local phenomenon. However, if you recently purchased one of our homes for sale in Excelsior, you might not know anything about this must-see event.

What Is Ice Castles

Ice Castles is a winter wonderland built by hand. Described as "Pure Magic. Pure Fun," more than 5,000 icicles are grown, harvested, and sculpted together by professional ice sculptors and artisans to bring fairy tales to life in Excelsior with twinkling lights, ice-carved thrones, tunnels, slides, and fountains.

Ice Castles - Perfect for Kids of All Ages

From the tiniest of tots to the more mature members of your family, Ice Castles is an awe-inspiring experience.

The Tiny Divas in your life will thrill to meet the Enchanted Frozen Sisters at a Princess Party held especially for them. The sisters will pose for pictures as they meet their guests at the Ice Castles.

The daredevils in your life will be amazed by a high energy fire show held at Ice Castles.

When Does Ice Castles Open to the Public

The opening of Ice Castles is dependent upon the weather. Consistent freezing temperatures are essential for the construction of Ice Castles. Ice Castles LLC, the company heading the event, watches the forecast for below-freezing temperatures to ensure a strong base for the castle. Ice Castles is located at 135 Lake Street in Excelsior, Minnesota.

Excelsior is One of Six Cities Chosen

Excelsior is one of six cities across North America chosen to host the event. Other locations include Dillon, Colorado, Edmonton, Alberta, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Lincoln, New Hampshire, and Midway, Utah.

Stillwater and Eden Prairie are former locations of the Ice Castles in Minnesota.

When to Tour Ice Castles

Depending upon the weather, the Ice Castles will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3 pm - 9 pm, Fridays from 3 pm - 10 pm, Saturdays from noon - 10 pm and Sundays from 3 pm - 9 pm. The Ice Castles are closed on Tuesdays.

Tips from Ice Castles Event Promoters

  • Don't forget your boots. The walking surface inside Ice Castles is made of crushed ice. Walking in boots is best.
  • Buy Tickets Ahead of Time. Buying a ticket means buying an arrival time. Please come within your 30-minute window. Once you're inside Ice Castles, stay as long as you'd like!
  • Go Green. With the purchase of online tickets, you'll receive a unique QR code. No need to print your ticket because your confirmation is scanned from your phone.
  • Take Pictures Please (and please share them #icecastles).  We encourage you to take pictures; however, please do not bring equipment like tripods and lights.
  • Bring a Sled. Bring a small sled instead of a stroller to the event. Strollers are difficult to navigate across the ice inside of the castle.
