Excelsior Apple Day is right around the corner, and we are excited for another year of fun. On Saturday, September 21st, this lakeside festival close to Excelsior homes for sale returns downtown on Water Street for a full day of fresh produce, live music, an exhilarating race, and old-fashioned street dancing. We look forward to this annual event and hope you'll join us in celebrating one of Excelsior's favorite traditions!
Nearly a century old, the first Excelsior Apple Day festival took place in 1935. Created to honor the town's rich history with apples, the inaugural event was a huge success despite taking place in the throes of the Great Depression. Hundreds attended this two-day event, which included a parade, car show, marching bands, a queen's court coronation ball, and much more. Of course, apples were in full focus during this celebration as jams, canned apples, jellies, baked goods, and even three-foot large apple pies were made for event-goers.
Unfortunately, Apple Day was canceled during 1941 and would remain nothing more than a memory for 44 years. It was revived again as a two-day celebration in 1985. Since then, Excelsior Apple Day has undergone various changes to its length and program. Today, it is a single-day celebration that continues to draw thousands and remains a favorite festival among locals and visitors alike.
