You'll have less to move around and less to worry about if the paint splatters or spills.

5. Find the fuse box and utility shut-offs. You've probably already seen these during the home inspection, but it is a good idea to refresh your memory and make sure they are all still accessible. You don't want to have an emergency and then realize you aren't sure.

**Bonus tip: Childproof. If you have a baby or very young children in your home, you know how curious they can be. It won't take them long to find something they shouldn't be playing with. Installing the baby gate, cabinet and drawer safety locks, cord shorteners for the blinds and electrical outlet guards will make the rest of the unpacking go a little easier for you.
